It's starting to look like Christmas!

Danville,
The Westover Christian Academy JV Boys Basketball team was back in action Thursday evening against the Tornados of Timberlake Christian School and came away with a convincing 61-31 victory. WCA last played two weeks ago on the road against Dayspring Christian and hadn't been able to practice since Monday. The layoff did seem to effect the Bulldogs early with some sloppy passes and unforced errors, however they were able to race out to an early 11-1 lead with high pressure defense in the full court.
Those sloppy passes would enable TCS to hang around into the 2nd quarter before the Bulldogs put the clamps down defensively to go up by 24 points at halftime, 39-15. The Bulldogs started the 3rd quarter in a man-to-man defense and the Tornados managed to bank in 2 three pointers to force the Bulldogs to adjust their defense to eliminate the threat from downtown. The two teams would actually trade baskets throughout the frame and both scored 13 points for a margin of 52-28 heading into the final stanza. All 13 of the Bulldogs players would see game action tonight and 11 of 13 would score with all players contributing. Westover would get up by over 30 points which triggered an automatic running clock for the remainder of the game and the Bulldogs cruised to a 30 point win 61-31.
WCA was led in scoring by Ashton Bettendorf who had 12 points and 6 steals. Luke Barber had 9 points going 3 of 4 from behind the arc, while Blake Barber played awesome coming off the bench to score 8 points, collect 7 steals and draw a charge when we were already up by 25. Tyler Hughes got his first action of the season scoring 7 points, Bailey McDowell had 5 points while Isaac Von Eime, Brayden Bortz, Dallas Wheeler and Matthew Millner all had 4 points apiece. Aaron Salmon and Neal Talbott both chipped in with 2 points. With the win WCA improves to 3-0 (3-0 VACA) on the season.
We are back in action tomorrow night on the road against former VACA foe the Gryphons of New Covenant School at 5:30pm.

The Westover Middle school boys faced off against the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes on Thursday night. The Bulldogs struggled early to get their shots to fall while the Tornadoes took an early lead in the first quarter. Westover continued to fight and closed the gap ending the first half only down by one point with a score of 13-14. Westover came out of halftime and jumped to a three point lead but could not hang for long due to several players being in foul trouble. A hard fought game ultimately ended in Westover’s first loss of the season with a final score of 29-34. The Bulldogs are now 2-1.

Several members of our WCA 2020 yearbook staff had an awesome time today learning new sports photography techniques with the Charlotte Checkers hockey team and Greg Forwreck, photographer for the Carolina Hurricanes.
